What It Takes to Become an Eagle Scout

What It Takes to Become an Eagle Scout
Boy Scouts of America- There are several requirements to becoming an Eagle Scout.
They should demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law throughout their daily lives. On their Eagle Scout Rank Application, scouts should list a few people personally know you and are willing to provide a recommendation on your behalf.
Among a few other requirements, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, which 10 would have been earned before, some include Personal Management, Communication, Camping, and Environmental Science. A scout must be active in a troop for at least six months after they have achieved the rank of Life Scout. During their time as a Life Scout, they must serve in one or more of the following positions and only list the ones served after their Life board of review date:

  • Boy Scout troop- Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, order of the Arrow troop representative, den chief, instructor, webmaster, or Leave No Trace trainer.
  • Varsity Scout team- Captain, co-captain, program manager, librarian, historian, or  quartermaster.
  • Venturing crew/ship-  President, vice president, secretary, boatswain, boatswain's mate, or yeoman.
  • Lone Scout- Leadership responsibility in his school, religious organization, club, or elsewhere in his community.

While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. A project proposal must be approved by the organization. They must use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, BSA publication No. 512-927. Scouts must take part in a unit leader conference and complete an Eagle Scout board of review successfully. To prepare for your board review, prepare and attach to your Eagle Scout Rank Application a statement of your ambitions and life purpose and a listing of positions held in your religious institution, school, camp, community, or other organizations, during which you demonstrated leadership skills. Include honors and awards received during this service.
